Fremlin Consulting is headed up by Ray Fremlin and was established in 2009. Ray has spent more than 45 years involved in the plantation industry. Born in Kenya and trained in South Africa, Ray moved to Australia in 1965 where he joined the Forest Department of Western Australia
He spent his early years in research, specialising in site preparation, planting, weed control, pest management, tending and tree improvement in temperate and tropical plantations. He rose to a senior management position with the Western Australian government’s forestry agency before joining Great Southern Limited in 2006. He is now a private consultant specialising in plantation silviculture. Ray is associated with MBAC Consulting Group on a number of projects.
Ray has extensive experience in Australia, India, Indonesia, Africa and many South East Asian countries.
With a background in plantation establishment and silviculture research, Ray Fremlin is well qualified to provide expert advice on all aspects of plantation management.
Ray represented the State of Western Australia on a number of Commonwealth and State forestry committees, and was responsible for coordinating the development of the Code of Practice for Timber Plantations in Western Australia. He also coordinated the development of the Oil Mallee Code of Practice that is followed Australia-wide.
With over 20 published articles based on his research and experience, Ray has the experience and knowledge to provide reliable advice to tree growers.
Fremlin Consulting provides a service to manage trial work, including development of weed and pest management systems, tree improvement and silvicultural regimes.
If your objective is commercial, biosequestration or amenity, Ray is able to manage the plantation for you. He can undertake site suitability surveys, supervise contractors, liaise with nurseries, provide assessments of plantation performance and advise on silvicultural management.
